Korean Powder Atomic Layer Coating Company ‘ALPES’ Selected for Deeptech TIPS

ALPES, a South Korean company specializing in powder atomic layer coating, has earned a spot in the Deeptech TIPS program after receiving an investment from the Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center.

Established in January 2022 as a spin-off from Hanyang University’s Nanodevices Engineering Department, ALPES boasts significant expertise in powder atomic layer coating technology. Leveraging this knowledge, ALPES focuses on enhancing the stability of high-end active materials used in secondary batteries through powder atomic layer coating processes. Additionally, the company is actively working on equipment designed for the mass production of these advanced materials. Plans are in place to inaugurate Korea’s inaugural mass-production powder atomic layer coating facility in December.

ALPES CEO Park Tae-joo expressed, “Atomic layer deposition technology is a well-established practice within the semiconductor industry, but its potential in areas dealing with powder materials like secondary batteries is a relatively recent development. We are committed to advancing and expanding the market for high-end active materials in the secondary battery industry through continuous research and development.”

The Deeptech TIPS Program offers support to promising startups in South Korea’s ten key emerging industries. The program provides substantial assistance, including KRW 1.5 billion for research and development funding, and overseas marketing funds, totaling KRW 1.7 billion, when a private investor contributes KRW 300 million or more.
