Bigtorage Secures Pre-Series A Funding for Small-Capacity ESS Expansion and Global Growth

Bigtorage, a Korean startup focused on developing optimal control and operation technologies for small-capacity Energy Storage Systems (ESS), has secured pre-Series A funding from Bluepoint Partners. The company was selected for the fourth cohort of “The GS Challenge: Future Energy,” a program by Bluepoint Partners and GS Energy aimed at discovering and nurturing innovative technology startups in the energy sector. Through its technological advancements, Bigtorage is driving sustainable growth in the energy industry.

Bigtorage specializes in developing integrated ESS systems and Power Conversion Systems (PCS) optimized for small-scale applications, such as electric vehicle charging stations, refrigerated trucks, and small buildings overseas, all of which are seeing increasing demand. The company’s ESS solutions efficiently store and utilize renewable energy, addressing challenges like peak-time power usage and surplus energy. Their systems not only reduce the installation costs of small-capacity ESS but also ensure high stability.

With the rise in renewable energy generation, the demand for ESS is expected to grow rapidly, and the small-scale ESS market, which plays a key role in stabilizing and adding flexibility to power quality, is also projected to expand. Bigtorage has been recognized for its strong expertise and execution capabilities in ESS deployment.

Earlier, Bigtorage successfully implemented a small-capacity ESS Power Management System (PMS) integrated with solar power systems and electric vehicle chargers in Naju, South Korea. This year, the company also secured a $1 million export contract in Vietnam. Starting with a solar monitoring platform tailored to the Vietnamese market, Bigtorage plans to promote its all-in-one PCS product through a pilot ESS project in Vietnam. This marks a significant step toward Bigtorage’s full-scale expansion into the global market, beyond its domestic presence.

Jo Chi-woo, Senior Investment Officer at Bluepoint Partners, who led the investment, remarked, “Approximately 73% of global greenhouse gas emissions stem from the production and use of ‘energy.’ As the ESS market for residential and industrial EV charging stations grows, Bigtorage’s solutions will play a crucial role in replacing fossil fuel-based power with renewable energy and ESS, contributing to the global fight against climate change.”

Lee Cheol-hee, Vice President of Bigtorage, added, “With this investment, we plan to enhance our existing technology and facilitate our entry into overseas markets such as Vietnam and Australia. We invite everyone to follow our journey as we establish a strong presence in the global market and continue to grow.”
