FUST Lab Secures Pre-Series A Funding to Expand Ultrasonic Emulsification Technology

FUST Lab, a company developing emulsification and dispersion equipment and water treatment devices using focused ultrasonic technology, announced that it has raised KRW 3.1 billion (approximately USD 2.3 million) in a pre-Series A funding round. The investment was led by Enlight Ventures, with participation from Dcamp, Innox, Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK), and Korea Development Bank (KDB).

Founded in 2022 as a spin-off from the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), FUST Lab is a startup leveraging focused ultrasonic technology to drive innovation across various industries.

Emulsification and dispersion technology, commonly used in manufacturing, involves uniformly mixing substances and preventing them from separating. This technology is utilized in fields such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, batteries, health supplements, and electronic materials. FUST Lab has developed “DEBREX,” a device that uses focused ultrasonic technology to mix water and oil without surfactants. The potential of DEBREX has been validated through collaborations with major domestic and international companies, and the company is currently entering the Korean and Japanese markets.

Additionally, FUST Lab has successfully developed technology to break down perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), toxic compounds known as Teflon. PFAS are persistent pollutants that can remain in the human body, even in trace amounts, and act as carcinogens, leading to strict regulations in the EU and the US. PFAS are widely used in industries such as semiconductors, batteries, non-stick cookware, and textiles, but the lack of viable alternatives has caused significant disruption.

FUST Lab is developing “CAVITOX,” a solution that efficiently breaks down PFAS. The company is also exploring its potential for pharmaceutical waste treatment and is in talks with global partners. This technology was recognized by Deep Tech TIPS in June.

With the recent investment, FUST Lab plans to accelerate market entry for DEBREX in South Korea and Japan. In Korea, the company is conducting tests and proof of concept (PoC) with numerous companies, and in Japan, a distribution partner has been secured, with exports set to begin soon. Additionally, as Europe begins enforcing PFAS regulations, FUST Lab will launch CAVITOX and collaborate with local companies.

In August, FUST Lab participated in WOW IR Day, presenting to potential investors.
