Sketchsoft Secures Series A Bridge Funding to Expand 3D Drawing App Feather

Sketchsoft, the developer of the 3D drawing app ‘Feather’ for designers and artists, has successfully secured Series A bridge funding from BASS Ventures. The investment amount has not been disclosed.

Feather is an innovative creative tool that combines 2D drawing with 3D modeling. It allows users to effortlessly create 3D mesh data by drawing with a pen while rotating the space on a tablet. By eliminating the complexities of traditional 3D modeling, Feather enables users to instantly bring their ideas to life in 3D, much like sketching on paper. This unique approach has made it particularly popular among architectural designers and animation storyboard artists.

After completing a successful free beta test with over 160,000 participants, including artists from Pixar and Disney, Feather officially launched as a paid app on the iPad App Store in November. The app quickly gained traction in creative communities and climbed to the second spot among paid apps in major markets such as the US, Japan, and Europe.

Sketchsoft is preparing to launch a 3D web platform that will allow anyone to view Feather creations seamlessly on mobile and PC. Additionally, the company is working on updates to position Feather as an indispensable iPad app for both everyday users and professional creators. These updates include B2B cloud collaboration features designed to meet the needs of global architecture and animation studios.

Founded by Dr. Yongkwan Kim, a KAIST Industrial Design graduate, Sketchsoft aims to commercialize cutting-edge 3D sketching technology. The team includes talented artists and designers from Hongik University, and they have been dedicated to developing user-centric, innovative products. The company is currently recruiting talent for software development and content creation.

Han Jeongbong, team leader at BASS Ventures, expressed confidence in Sketchsoft’s future, “Sketchsoft has the potential to become a leading company in high-quality 3D data, positioning itself as a key player in the 3D generative AI market. The fact that over 95% of its users are international and that the product transcends language and cultural barriers highlights its tremendous potential.”
Dr. Yongkwan Kim, CEO of Sketchsoft, shared his vision for the company’s growth, “With this investment, we plan to enhance our marketing efforts, expand our user base, and introduce new features such as animation editing and integration with generative AI. Our goal is to revolutionize the creative workflow.”
