GemGem Therapeutics Secures Bridge Funding to Expand AI Rehabilitation Solutions

GemGem Therapeutics (GemGem), an AI-based rehabilitation solutions company for children with disabilities, announced on the 14th that it has secured bridge funding from Smilegate Investment and MYSC. With this investment, the company plans to strengthen its technology development and clinical research while laying the groundwork for global expansion.

GemGem has developed GemGem400, a rehabilitation game that allows children with disabilities to engage in therapy exercises without the need for additional equipment. Utilizing AI-powered motion recognition technology, the solution analyzes hand and finger movements to provide personalized rehabilitation exercises. A study conducted in collaboration with the Catholic University of Korea demonstrated that GemGem400 delivers the same therapeutic effectiveness as conventional glove-based hardware solutions. Additionally, it enables 380 rehabilitation training sessions for the cost of a single in-person therapy session, reducing treatment expenses by 22 times and increasing exercise frequency by 13 times. Since GemGem400 is available for download on the App Store and Google Play Store, it significantly improves accessibility to rehabilitation therapy.

In the second half of 2025, the company plans to further validate GemGem400’s therapeutic effects through an SCI research paper publication. A representative from Smilegate Investment stated, “GemGem Therapeutics’ AI rehabilitation solution is an innovative technology with strong global market potential. We will actively support the company’s growth by leveraging our investment expertise and deep knowledge of the healthcare sector.”

Kim Jung-tae, CEO of MYSC, added, “The entrepreneurial spirit of the GemGem Therapeutics team and their genuine commitment to solving social issues were truly impressive. Through our global network and ESG management expertise, we will help the company grow into a sustainable social venture.”

Last year, GemGem expanded its offline rehabilitation services by opening the ‘GemGem Child Development Center’ at Samhwan Hipex in Pangyo. This center provides customized rehabilitation programs utilizing GemGem400, enabling more in-depth and personalized therapy.

With global expansion in mind from the outset, the company is set to accelerate its entry into the U.S. market in 2025. CEO Kim Jung-eun shared, “By attending SOCAP and CES in San Francisco last year, we gained firsthand experience in the U.S. social venture ecosystem and built partnerships with local families of children with disabilities and rehabilitation centers. Having confirmed the potential of GemGem400 in the U.S. market, we are now refining our global expansion strategy.”

GemGem also plans to extend its solutions to include treatment programs for children with autism. CEO Kim explained, “Currently, we provide rehabilitation solutions for children with cerebral palsy, but occupational therapy is just as crucial for children with autism. Moving forward, we aim to develop tailored rehabilitation solutions for a wider range of children with disabilities, maximizing our social impact.”

More than just a rehabilitation game developer, GemGem is an impact-driven startup dedicated to solving social challenges. Last year, the company won the grand prize in the incubating track at ‘2024 Impact Startup Day’.

CEO Kim concluded, “Many children face financial and geographical barriers to receiving the rehabilitation treatment they need. We are committed to using innovative technology to address these challenges, ensuring that more children with disabilities and their caregivers can access essential rehabilitation services without financial burden.”
