Korean AI-Powered VR Tracking Startup ‘Soulart’ Secures Seed Investment

Soulart, a South Korea-based startup developing AI-powered virtual reality (VR) tracking solutions, has successfully raised seed funding from Mashup Ventures. The investment amount remains undisclosed.

Soulart is developing innovative VR tracking solutions including “Soulart Station,” a full-body motion tracking system that accurately captures users’ movements without requiring wearable devices, and “Soulart App,” a VR tracking software that can be utilized freely in any environment.

The company’s system features precise spatial reinterpretation technology and optimized on-device AI processing capabilities. Compared to existing VR trackers, Soulart’s solution reduces the need for expensive 3D recognition sensors, cutting construction costs to approximately 25% while simultaneously improving motion recognition accuracy.

Additionally, leveraging built-in Neural Processing Units (NPU), the technology can be applied across various human recognition fields including gaming, simulation, and digital twin applications.

Recognizing this technological excellence, Soulart was selected for the TIPS Deep Tech Track program organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

CEO Oh Hyuk-jae is a talented developer who entered KAIST as a computer science specialist and won the grand prize in the Korean Informatics Olympiad’s proposal category. Even during his military service, he continued developing the concept of wearable-free VR trackers, winning awards at competitions including the “K-Startup Challenge” and “Chung Ju-yung Startup Competition.” After completing his military service, Oh began full-scale entrepreneurship alongside COO Jeon Da-eum, his colleague from both science high school and KAIST’s School of Computing.

Park Eun-woo, Partner at Mashup Ventures who led this investment round, commented: “VR full-body trackers represent a field with high user demand, yet many challenges remain including expensive pricing and uncomfortable wearability. We highly evaluated the potential of this team, which possesses outstanding technical capabilities and domain knowledge, as they systematically address the problems they directly experienced while using VR trackers.”

CEO Oh Hyuk-jae stated: “We are preparing for the official product launch by the end of this year, and our ultimate goal is to enable general users to easily enjoy the fully immersive VR experiences we’ve only seen in movies. We plan to expand recruitment of excellent engineers in the human-centric recognition field who share Soulart’s vision and want to join our journey.”
