Korean Aerospace and Defense Startup CAMP Raises Seed Funding from Series Ventures

CAMP, a South Korean startup offering one-stop engineering and manufacturing solutions for the aerospace and defense sectors through laser-based technology, has closed a seed funding round from Series Ventures. The financial terms were not disclosed.

CAMP combines Laser Beam Welding (LBW) technology with a robotic automation platform to deliver integrated engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance services for aerospace component production. The company addresses a persistent pain point in the industry: conventional manual welding processes have long been plagued by high defect rates and inconsistent quality, generating billions of Korean won in annual scrap costs for aerospace manufacturers.

At the heart of CAMP’s approach is a precision laser system that concentrates energy more than 1,000 times more intensely than conventional welding methods. This allows even ultra-thin metal sheets to be joined in an instant without warping or burning, significantly minimizing deformation during the bonding of demanding specialty materials such as titanium and aluminum. A robotic arm equipped with precision motors automates the entire welding process, eliminating human error and delivering a dramatic improvement in production throughput.

Despite being an early-stage company, CAMP has already built a track record in major domestic defense programs, establishing localization references for critical components that were previously sourced from overseas. The startup is also deepening its presence in the New Space market by partnering with private launch vehicle companies on propellant tank development. With the seed investment, CAMP plans to scale up its production facilities and pursue what would be South Korea’s first globally recognized LBW process certification, positioning the company for entry into the international commercial aviation market.

“CAMP is a rare team capable of driving the localization of core aerospace components that have long depended on imports, and of solving chronic quality problems on the shop floor through technology,” said Seongwook Kwak and Junsang Park of Series Ventures. “With proven demonstration capabilities and unrivaled laser automation technology, the company has the potential to establish a leading position in the global aerospace foundry market.”

Yunwan Kim, CEO of CAMP, said he founded the company with a clear mission in mind. “I was determined to solve the enormous foreign currency outflows and chronic delivery delays caused by the difficulty of specialized processes on the production floor,” he said. “Building on this investment, we will develop an aerospace manufacturing platform that integrates design, manufacturing, and quality assurance into a single end-to-end solution — and play a central role in positioning South Korea among the world’s top five aerospace powers.”
