Korea Rolls Out Bigger, Better-Funded Program for Foreign Startup Founders
Foreign entrepreneurs looking to break into the Korean market have a new opportunity: Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups has kicked off applications for the 2026 Global Startup Commercialization Program, a government-backed initiative designed to help international founders establish and grow ventures in the country.

The entire process — application, review, and final evaluation — runs in English, removing one of the more practical hurdles for overseas applicants. Startups that make the cut will receive an average of $33,557 (KRW 50 million) in funding, up to a maximum of $53,691 (KRW 80 million), to push their commercialization forward. That covers everything from product development and market localization to IP acquisition and marketing.
Cash isn’t the only draw. Participants tap into the Global Startup Center (GSC) network, which bundles workspace, legal and marketing advisory, investor introductions, and connections to established Korean corporate partners — giving foreign founders a real infrastructure to work from, not just a check.

Interest has been heating up. The 2025 edition pulled a 13-to-1 competition ratio, a clear signal that Korea is increasingly on the radar of international founders. Polymerize, a materials-tech startup that landed in Korea in September 2024, illustrates what’s possible: the company uses AI models to accelerate material development predictions and has already created 11 local jobs, with support from both this program and the K-Startup Grand Challenge.

The 2026 edition reflects that momentum. Capacity grows from 10 to 15 startups, and funding gets a meaningful bump — average grants rise from $26,846 (KRW 40 million), which were previously capped at $40,268 (KRW 60 million), to the new levels.
“More founders with advanced technologies and strong innovation are considering Korea as a base for their ventures,” said Kyung-Won Cho, Director General for Startup Policy. “Through this program, we aim to support their stable settlement and sustained growth within Korea’s startup ecosystem.”Applications run from March 18 to April 10 through the Global Startup Center website at startup-korea.com. Further details are available via MSS and the K-Startup platform.
