AcesoStem Biostrategies Raises $2.65M Series A to Advance Musculoskeletal Cell Therapy Pipeline

AcesoStem Biostrategies, a South Korean startup developing cell therapies for musculoskeletal diseases, has closed a $2.65M (KRW 4 billion) Series A round led solely by Premier Partners. The investor cited the company’s clinical regeneration data and first-in-class technological differentiation as key factors behind the decision.

AcesoStem’s pipeline is built on two core platforms licensed from Seoul National University School of Medicine: ‘smumf cell’, an umbilical cord-derived regenerative medicine cell, and ‘3CX’, a ready-to-use injectable cell delivery system. Together, these platforms underpin the company’s regenerative therapeutics targeting conditions including rotator cuff tears and osteoarthritis.

Its lead pipeline candidate, AcesoStem-Teno, achieved a world-first result in a Phase 1 clinical trial for partial rotator cuff tears — demonstrating both tissue regeneration and disease reversal in all nine enrolled patients. Three concurrent trials covering a total of 77 patients are currently underway at Seoul National University Boramae Medical Center, Korea University Anam Hospital, and Asan Medical Center in Seoul.

AcesoStem is also advancing AcesoStem-Hyalo, a disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD) candidate, in parallel with its rotator cuff program.

Proceeds from the Series A will be directed toward accelerating the rotator cuff Phase 1/2a trial, initiating preclinical and clinical work on the osteoarthritis candidate, and establishing a new R&D center called ARCA.

“Building on this investment, we will push forward rapidly on both the rotator cuff and osteoarthritis trials,” said CEO Hyunchul Cho. “Through our new R&D center ARCA, we aim to grow into a global cell therapy platform company that redefines how musculoskeletal diseases are diagnosed and treated.”
