Korean neurodegenerative disease biotech AriBio has secured a strategic equity investment of $27.5 million (approximately KRW 42.5 billion) from Chinese pharmaceutical giant Fosun Pharma, deepening a partnership that evolved from a licensing deal into a shareholder relationship in less than two months.

Fosun Pharma will deploy the investment in two stages: an initial $7.5 million (approximately KRW 11.5 billion), followed by a second injection of $20 million (approximately KRW 31 billion).
The move builds on a global exclusive licensing agreement for AR1001 worth approximately KRW 7 trillion that the two companies signed in May. It is rare in the Korean biotech industry for a global pharmaceutical company to become a strategic shareholder so quickly after a large-scale technology export deal. The investment makes Fosun Pharma AriBio’s third-largest shareholder, behind Solux and Samjin Pharmaceutical.
The deal came immediately after AriBio successfully completed patient dosing in its global Phase 3 trial of AR1001, conducted across 230 clinical sites in 13 countries. AR1001, a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor also known as mirodenafil, is being developed as what AriBio aims to be the world’s first oral disease-modifying therapy (DMT) for Alzheimer’s disease. The program has now entered its final stage before potential global commercialization.
AriBio said the two companies will operate as a unified team across development, regulatory approval, manufacturing, and commercialization. Starting with AR1001, they plan to expand cooperation into follow-on drug pipelines as well as immuno-oncology and vaccine platforms. The company added that the investment reflects Fosun Pharma’s confidence not only in AR1001’s underlying technology but also in AriBio’s long-term growth potential and corporate value.
