Mediqstar, a South Korean medical AI and medical large language model (mLLM) startup, announced on August 3 that it has completed a pre-Series B funding round.

The company did not disclose the amount.
Genaxis, the accelerator that participated in Mediqstar’s Series A round, was the sole investor in this pre-Series B. Genaxis decided to provide follow-on capital after evaluating Mediqstar’s medical AI technology, the commercialization potential of its tuberculosis diagnostic solution, and the startup’s ability to expand into subsequent diagnostic areas such as colorectal cancer.
Mediqstar raised its Series A round from PathfinderH in January 2026.
The new capital will be used to accelerate overseas commercialization of Mediqstar’s AI-powered TB diagnostic microscopy platform MycoScan and to advance R&D for its medical AI pipeline, including colorectal cancer diagnostics.
MycoScan is an AI-based tuberculosis diagnostic solution that has received Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety medical device approval. The platform applies edge AI technology that enables it to run in standard computing environments without dedicated high-performance GPU servers, making it usable even in settings with limited internet connectivity and medical infrastructure.
According to Mediqstar, MycoScan can shorten the time required for both TB bacilli detection and drug-resistance testing while supporting clinicians’ diagnostic decisions. The company is currently pursuing business partnerships with local medical institutions and partners in countries with high TB prevalence.
Building on the medical imaging and multimodal data analysis capabilities it developed for tuberculosis diagnostics, Mediqstar is expanding into early colorectal cancer detection. The AI MPE Diagnostic Platform now under development is a medical AI system that integrates Molecular, Pathological, and Epidemiological information. It uses multiplex immunofluorescence analysis and three-dimensional visualization to analyze tumor tissue data and support clinicians’ diagnosis and research.
Mediqstar announced that it has signed a data-use agreement with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in the United States.
“Mediqstar has the technology to build lightweight medical AI that can operate in environments with limited infrastructure, as well as the capability to integrate diverse medical datasets,” a Genaxis official said. “We decided to provide follow-on investment based on the overseas commercialization potential of the TB diagnostic solution and the scalability into subsequent diagnostic areas such as colorectal cancer.”
Jong-Eon Im, CEO of Mediqstar, said, “With this investment, we will accelerate the overseas rollout of MycoScan and speed up R&D and commercialization of our pipeline, including colorectal cancer diagnostics.”
South Korea’s medical AI sector has seen active investment recently. Surgical robotics AI startup Rosota raised a $965K seed round, and bio AI startup AMPLY secured seed funding from Bluepoint Partners to expand its everyday health diagnostic platform.
