K-Beauty Startup 6PENCE Raises $1.4M Seed to Scale Performance-Marketing-Driven Global Skincare Brand

South Korean K-beauty skincare startup 6PENCE has secured approximately $1.4 million (KRW 2 billion) in seed funding, the company announced on August 6, 2026.

K-Beauty Startup 6PENCE Raises $1.4M Seed to Scale Performance-Marketing-Driven Global Skincare Brand

The round was led by Kakao Ventures, with participation from Amorepacific and K2 Investment Partners.

Founded as a globally oriented brand from day one, 6PENCE employs a performance-driven validation model instead of traditional product seeding. Rather than offering free product samples to influencers for exposure, the company compensates creators based on actual purchase conversions through social-selling and affiliate marketing channels. This approach enables SixPence to collect real sales data — conversion rates, repeat-purchase rates, and customer feedback — and immediately integrate the insights into product refinement and brand direction as it pursues product-market fit. The startup’s anchor product line, Melt Halo, is undergoing early market validation, and the team is expanding the portfolio based on measured consumer response.

6PENCE CEO Jinseok Hong is a veteran K-beauty executive who began his career at LG Household & Health Care and subsequently served as marketing director and head of domestic e-commerce at Mediheal, before moving to Roundlab, where he held the roles of CMO and global B2C channel director. His experience spans brand planning, global channel growth, and cross-border operations. Jinseok Hong has assembled a core team of former colleagues and recent hires from Larasweet and Qoo10, completing an execution team that covers brand strategy, global e-commerce, and end-to-end marketing. Unlike many domestic-first brands that expand abroad after establishing a local foothold, 6PENCE was launched from the outset by a team experienced in global channel operations and international marketing, targeting overseas markets directly.

K-beauty cosmetics exports reached approximately KRW 4.68 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, a 19 percent increase year-on-year and a record for any quarter. The global K-beauty products market was valued at roughly $11.8 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 6–10 percent. Despite industry-wide expansion, substantial white-space remains, particularly in markets where Korean beauty brands have yet to gain firm traction. Jinseok Hong has navigated multiple channel transitions across Korea, China, and the United States over the past decade, establishing and refining brands in each market. Drawing on that operational track record, the company expects to extend its reach both in untapped geographies and in existing export hubs with unmet demand.

6PENCE plans to use the new capital to refine brand positioning and accelerate global marketing through social-selling and affiliate channels. The startup will also pursue staged open-innovation collaboration with strategic investor Amorepacific.

“Teams that combine deep brand-planning expertise with hands-on global channel growth experience — spanning both large beauty conglomerates and independent brands — are rare,” said Hyewon Ahn, principal at Kakao Ventures. “We were impressed by 6PENCE’s method of rapidly testing products via influencer channels and iterating based on performance, and by the team’s proven ability to execute that model.”

Jinseok Hong, CEO of 6PENCE, added, “By maintaining short intervals between product planning, marketing, B2B sales, and channel execution, we can respond quickly to market signals and build a validated brand. Just as our name references Somerset Maugham’s The Moon and Sixpence — contrasting idealism with reality — we intend to be a global brand that balances creative vision and commercial performance.”

Seed and early-stage funding activity has continued among South Korean beauty and commerce startups. Earlier this year, MODEPICK raised seed funding from Kakao Ventures and Ewha Technology Holdings to scale its AI-driven cross-border purchase agency platform. In July, Fapis closed a Series A bridge round led by Smilegate Investment to expand its AI-powered fix-and-sell model for pre-owned luxury goods, positioning Korea as a global hub for authenticated resale commerce.
