Thin film coating technology ‘DeepSmartech’ raises seed funding

South Korea-based advanced thin-film materials technology startup DeepSmartech announced today that it has raised seed funding from BigBang Angels and Korea Omega Investment. The amount is undisclosed.
DeepSmartech is developing various functional polymer nano-coating technologies such as water repellent, hydrophilic, and antiviral through unique polymer thin film vapor deposition.
In particular, unlike the existing Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method, it has attracted attention from the industry for its mass production scale technology that enables uniform coating at the nano level at room temperature, fundamentally solving the problem of heat damage to the target material.
In addition, it is expected to be highly useful in various fields such as semiconductors, bio, and functional fibers, as it can uniformly grow polymer coating layers even on ultra-microporous films such as separators in electric vehicle batteries.
Through this investment, DeepSmartech plans to strengthen its competitiveness by expanding its scope to develop multi-layer nano-polymer realization technology through a continuous process, laying the foundation for the establishment of polymer nano-coating mass production facilities.
Tae-hyun Kim, Co-CEO of Big Bang Angels, who led the investment, said, “Using DeepSmartech’s vapor deposition technology, we can not only solve the problem of thermal runaway and explosion caused by the breakdown of the separator in electric vehicle batteries, but also solve the deterioration of silicon cathode, which has more than 10 times the lithium storage capacity of graphite, and dramatically increase the driving range. We focused on the deep-tech technology that can be applied not only to batteries but also to semiconductors and bio”
“Nano-thick and uniform dry coating at room temperature is significant in that it can provide a new paradigm for various industries that are facing the limitations of performance improvement with conventional wet coating,” said Ho-yeon Kim, CEO of DeepSmartech. “DeepSmartech will respond closely from the early development stage with next-generation process technology that adds value to customers’ products and propose optimal nano-coating solutions for each customer.”
