Aerodynamic Tech Startup ‘ADRO’ Secures 5.4 Billion KRW in Series A Funding
Korean startup ADRO, specializing in aerodynamic technology, has secured 5.4 billion KRW in Series A funding. The investment round included participation from Stonebridge Ventures, K2 Investment Partners, SBVA, Korea Investment & Securities, BonAngels Venture Partners, Bridge Investment Group, and Strong Ventures.
ADRO develops aerodynamic body kits and solutions, and its aerodynamic body kits minimize air resistance in electric vehicles, thereby enhancing energy efficiency and performance. When applied to electric vehicles like Tesla, ADRO’s aero kits can reduce air resistance and improve efficiency by up to 5-7%.
With this Series A funding, ADRO plans to expand its electric vehicle body kit lineup. The company also intends to develop the Aero Optimization System (AOS), an aerodynamic optimization SaaS (Software as a Service) platform, to assist automotive companies and other enterprises requiring aerodynamic technology in developing their products more easily based on ADRO’s aerodynamic solutions.
ADRO is the only company that combines aerospace engineering and race car aerodynamic expertise, led by key team members such as CEO Seunghyun Yoon, an aerospace engineering graduate from KAIST, CTO Scott Beaton, who has distinguished himself in the race car aerodynamic field with the F1 Williams Team and World Time Attack, and CDO Yongwon Lee, who designed the Mercedes-Benz Maybach Vision 6 concept car.
In addition to the Series A funding, ADRO has secured an additional 1.5 billion KRW through the First Penguin program of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund (KODIT).
K2 Investment Partners, one of the investors in this round, stated, “We are excited to see ADRO innovate and advance aerodynamic technology in the automotive industry. Their unique combination of aerodynamic engineering principles and automotive design expertise plays a crucial role in shaping the future of mobility, especially as electric vehicles rapidly increase.”
Moreover, Lee Jonghyun, Senior Manager at Stonebridge Ventures who facilitated the investment in ADRO, mentioned, “We decided to invest in ADRO as it is a company that creates unique products combining high aesthetic design and aerodynamic technology. With approximately 80% of its total sales coming from overseas, we expect it to achieve significant success internationally in the future.”
Seunghyun Yoon, CEO of ADRO, said, “The support and trust from our investors have bolstered our confidence in achieving our goal of innovating with aerodynamic technology in the automotive market, which is undergoing a paradigm shift towards electric vehicles. We will solidify our position as a global leader in product development, market expansion, and the field of aerodynamic engineering.”
