MID Secures $1.44 million to Advance Space-Grade Components Development

MID, a Korean space components company, has secured a pre-Series A investment of 2 billion won (approximately USD 1.44 million). This round was led by DSC Investment and its subsidiary, Schmidt. The funding will be used to attract top talent and expand facilities for developing space-grade ceramic packages, accelerating research and development efforts.

In recent years, global investment in the space sector has surged, establishing it as a key industry of the future. With this growth, the demand for components essential to advancing the space industry has also risen. Space components must be built from highly durable materials capable of withstanding harsh space conditions, including radiation exposure, and require specialized manufacturing processes.

Founded in late 2018, MID focuses on the development, testing, and manufacturing of space-grade components. The company collaborates with major players in the space sector, including aerospace and defense firms, university research centers, and government-funded institutes, to deliver innovative solutions. As Korea lacks companies specializing in space component development and production, MID has positioned itself as a leader in this field.

MID’s strengths lie in its space-grade memory semiconductor technologies, such as “space-grade ceramic sealed package memory” and “space large-capacity memory modules.” It also produces components with high durability against vibration, shock, heat, and radiation—qualities essential for space applications. Additionally, MID offers advanced technologies like “up-screening test technology” to enhance commercial parts for space-grade use with radiation resistance, “ultra-small and practical satellite product assurance,” and “turnkey procurement of space-grade components with documentation support (PIL, PAD),” significantly reducing production costs.

CEO Jeong Seong-geun stated, “This investment will allow MID to further expand Korea’s domestic supply chain for space components by developing diverse space-grade memory semiconductors and enhancing our up-screening test services. As Korea’s only integrated platform for space component manufacturing, testing, and supply chain management, we are committed to leading innovation in this field.”
