Korea supports Indonesia with smart factory tech and training center launch

On December 2, Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) announced the completion and opening of Indonesia‘s first smart factory education center at Vinus University in Bekasi, Indonesia. The event was attended by Indonesia’s Minister of SMEs and Startups, the Vice Minister of Cooperatives, and representatives from the Small and Medium Business Technology Innovation Association (Innobiz Association).

This initiative, launched last year, is a collaboration between Korea and Indonesia aimed at improving processes, modernizing equipment, and training professionals at small and medium-sized manufacturing sites in Indonesia. The project draws on Korea’s extensive experience in smart factory development and is supported through Official Development Assistance (ODA).

The newly established education center features state-of-the-art lecture facilities for theoretical training and a hands-on practice center where participants can experience the construction and operation of smart factories. It is designed to serve as a practical education platform for corporate professionals. The training program includes an introduction to smart factory solutions, case studies from Korea, and workshops for developing and presenting action plans for implementing smart factories.

The center also houses a dedicated exhibition space showcasing solutions from Korean companies involved in smart factory projects. This space is expected to support Korean firms in entering the Indonesian market and expanding their business presence locally.

Choi Won-young, Director of Global Growth Policy at MSS, stated, “The Indonesia Smart Factory Transfer Project is our first effort to share Korea’s manufacturing innovation achievements globally. We hope it becomes a significant stepping stone for improving productivity in Indonesian SMEs and a springboard for Korean smart factory companies to strengthen their global presence.”

Innobiz Association Chairman Jeong Gwang-cheon commented, “We hope the Smart Factory Center will not only nurture talent but also serve as a hub for spreading smart technologies across Indonesia. We look forward to expanding exchanges and collaboration between Korean and Indonesian companies through this initiative.”
