CIS Chemical Secures Investment from GENAXIS to Boost High-Purity Alumina and Battery Material Production
Korean company CIS Chemical, a producer of high-purity alumina for semiconductors and displays and materials for rechargeable batteries, announced it has secured investment from GENAXIS, with the amount undisclosed.

Founded in 2012, CIS Chemical operates a waste battery recycling solution and established a high-purity alumina production facility in Gwangju, South Korea. It began exporting to Japan in 2016, successfully entering global markets. The company has contributed to domestic rechargeable battery material production by processing lithium carbonate powder for battery doping and achieving pilot production of nickel and cobalt for cathode precursors. Recently, it completed wet-process-based cathode precursor manufacturing technology at its Gwangyang, South Jeolla production hub, registering as a vendor and supplying major domestic and international cathode manufacturers.
Despite high entry barriers in the rechargeable battery doping material market, CIS Chemical has been selected as a key vendor, ensuring stable material supply. Collaborating with major Korean cathode material manufacturers, it develops and launches new doping products, sustaining robust revenue growth. The company plans to achieve continued revenue growth in 2025 through factory expansion and business diversification.
Additionally, CIS Chemical boasts differentiated technology in waste battery recycling. Its proprietary Synergic Solvent Extraction (SSX) technology simplifies complex processes while efficiently recovering high-value metals like nickel, cobalt, and lithium, achieving successful commercialization.
The company’s workforce consists of veteran engineers with global experience in mining and chemical plant design and commissioning. Their expertise in operating large-scale SSX plants ensures technical superiority, enabling in-house production and maintenance.
CIS Chemical produces rechargeable battery materials like doping materials, MHP (mixed hydroxide precipitate, a cathode precursor raw material), and lithium carbonate, alongside high-purity alumina for semiconductor and display processes, expanding its presence in high-value domestic and international material markets.
GENAXIS, the investor, stated, “CIS Chemical possesses proprietary technology and production capabilities in high-purity alumina and rechargeable battery materials, with strong potential for global market expansion. We expect the company to further strengthen its competitiveness in the materials industry and achieve significant market results moving forward.”
