Meissa to Supply Satellite Imagery-Based Smart Construction Solution to Takenaka
Meissa, an AI-based Korean geospatial technology company, announced on the 23rd that it has signed a contract to supply its satellite imagery-based smart construction solution to Takenaka Corporation, one of Japan’s five major general contractors.
Meissa’s solution utilizes high-resolution satellite imagery without the need for drones. This contract was made after Takenaka Corporation decided to tentatively adopt the solution as an alternative technology for some sites where drone operation is restricted.
Meissa’s solution, based on satellite imagery, enables the acquisition of periodic time-series data, allowing for integrated remote monitoring, communication, and safety management. In particular, it allows for site assessment without separate drone flight approvals or equipment installation, making it highly useful in areas with flight restrictions.
Furthermore, Takenaka Corporation has shown interest in advanced analytical functions such as AI-based object detection, material and equipment counting, and InSAR-based ground subsidence analysis, and plans to discuss expanding the scope of technology application in the future.
In 2023, Meissa provided its satellite imagery-based smart construction solution to the ‘LH Bucheon Daejang Public Housing District Construction Site (Contractor: Dongbu Construction),’ marking the first such case in Korea. The system introduced at the time garnered attention as a remote site management solution that integrated process monitoring, communication functions, and safety management functions, even in environments near airports where drone operation was restricted.
Young-hoon Kim, Vice President and CBO of Meissa, emphasized, “The satellite imagery-based site management solution is a realistic alternative for effectively managing sites even in environments where drone operation is restricted.” He added, “This contract is an important milestone that proves Meissa’s remote monitoring and analysis technology can provide tangible value in the global construction market.”
Meissa utilizes digital twin technology, encompassing drone and satellite data, to provide remote monitoring and AI-based analysis solutions to various industrial fields, including construction. Recently, the company has been accelerating its expansion into the Japanese market, having successively signed contracts with Obayashi Corporation and Takenaka Corporation, both among Japan’s top five construction companies, and has gained attention through a strategic business agreement (MoU) with KDDI, a leading Japanese telecommunications company.
