AIT Studio Secures Seed Funding to Scale AI-Powered Gait Analysis Device ‘MediStep’ Globally

Korean startup AIT Studio, developer of the iPad-based gait analysis medical device MediStep, has secured seed funding to accelerate its expansion into North American and European markets. The funding round saw participation from Korea Investment Accelerator, MYSC, and The Wells Investment, with MYSC returning as a follow-on investor.

The company plans to use the investment to explore local opportunities in San Francisco, as well as to initiate a collaboration project this September with the University of Basel in Switzerland, marking the beginning of its full-scale global expansion.

MediStep is a markerless gait analysis solution that leverages on-device AI capabilities of the iPad. It precisely measures full-body joint movements without the need for external sensors. Compared to conventional sensor-based systems, which can cost hundreds of millions of Korean won, MediStep reduces costs by over 90%, while maintaining approximately 95% measurement accuracy—offering both economic and user-friendly advantages. In May, AIT Studio became one of the few early-stage startups to receive NET (New Excellent Technology) Certification from Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, validating its technological credibility.

AIT Studio’s founding team comprises KAIST Mechanical Engineering alumni, including a CEO with prior AI/computer vision experience in the automotive industry, a CMO from a global consulting firm, and a CTO with a PhD in biomechanics. The diverse expertise of the team has driven both product development and go-to-market strategies.

Currently, MediStep is being deployed through Seoul City’s “Vulnerable Population Support Network,” including welfare centers in Seongdong-gu and Gangnam-gu, and is expanding into public health centers and senior healthcare facilities nationwide. The company is also collaborating with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) for joint R&D, while participating in the National Rehabilitation Center’s usability testing program to improve user experience (UX). Moreover, AIT Studio has entered a distribution partnership with HASPI, a medical device distributor, to scale delivery to hospitals and clinical institutions.

Lee Sung-moon, Team Leader at Korea Investment Accelerator, commented, “AIT Studio is a team that is not only commercializing practical solutions for real-world medical and welfare settings, starting with gait analysis, but also demonstrating strong execution across regulatory navigation, public sector validation, and global platform integration.”

Park Shin-ki, CEO of AIT Studio, added, “Despite the high entry barriers in the medical gait analysis field, we are entering the market with a solution that balances practicality and accuracy. We plan to build references with university hospitals and medical researchers while simultaneously preparing for global expansion.”

Founded in 2022, AIT Studio is a digital healthcare startup that possesses one of Korea’s largest repositories of gait analysis data. Leveraging in-house AI software development capabilities, the company is pursuing both domestic medical device localization and global market entry. Future applications of MediStep include early diagnosis and prognosis tools for gait-related disorders such as frailty, sarcopenia, and Parkinson’s disease.
