VideoMonster, “Expanding to Southeast Asia with 400K Users, Scaling Travel Content API”

Video reviews have become a cornerstone of the travel industry, with 90% of travelers now relying on them to make decisions. Yet creating compelling travel content remains frustratingly difficult for everyday users, while companies struggle to source authentic, high-quality video reviews at scale.

The current landscape of social media platforms, online travel agencies, and navigation apps operates in silos—video reviews, maps, sharing features, and user feedback exist as disconnected fragments rather than an integrated experience.

Enter VideoMonster. Since launching in 2019, this Korean startup has emerged as the country’s premier short-form video production platform, powered by cutting-edge AI technology. Their breakthrough ViiV solution transforms how travel content gets created and distributed. The platform empowers ordinary users to craft professional-grade travel review videos effortlessly, while providing businesses seamless access to this content through API integration.

The numbers tell a compelling story. VideoMonster has attracted over 400,000 downloads across Korea and Japan, with more than 200 influential content creators actively using the platform. This community has generated over 50,000 short-form travel review videos, creating a rich content library that serves both domestic and international clients.

Behind this success lies serious technical firepower: 8,000+ motion graphic templates, 2.1 million video renderings, two ministerial awards, and 11 patents. Most remarkably for a video technology company, VideoMonster hit 2 billion won in revenue in 2024 and is targeting 3 billion won for 2025.

Now VideoMonster is setting its sights on Southeast Asia through the 2025 Tourism Global Challenge program. This initiative, spearheaded by Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization, with operational support from CNTtech, is providing VideoMonster with the resources and connections needed to scale internationally.

The program offers access to strategic partnerships, investor networks, and market insights that are proving invaluable for the company’s Singapore-based expansion strategy. The collaborative environment with other Korean startups in the program is also generating unexpected synergies for domestic market development.

What pain point is your team addressing?

The challenge lies in two areas: ordinary users struggle to create compelling lifestyle and travel review videos, while businesses find it incredibly difficult to source this type of content reliably. Our ViiV solution bridges this gap beautifully. Users can leverage our AI-powered tools to create and edit videos seamlessly, then share them on our platform. Meanwhile, companies that need authentic video content can access this rich library instantly through our API—no complicated procurement processes, just plug-and-play access to high-quality user-generated content.

How does your approach solve this problem?

We’re addressing a fundamental disconnect in the travel ecosystem. While 90% of travelers rely on video reviews for decision-making, the current infrastructure is fragmented. Social platforms, travel sites, and navigation apps operate in isolation—video reviews here, maps there, sharing features somewhere else entirely. ViiV changes this by automating the creation of travel review videos that users actually want to make, then connecting all these elements into a cohesive content production system.

What sets you apart from competitors?

Our foundation is rock-solid. We built Korea’s leading short-form video template solution, then supercharged it with our Vimon AI technology. This isn’t just incremental improvement—we’re talking about 8,000+ motion graphic templates and 2.1 million video renders that have refined our technology stack. We hold 11 patents, earned two ministerial awards, and have been adapting our tech to evolving video market demands since 2020. Most importantly, we own the entire technology stack, which gives us incredible flexibility and speed.

What products and services do you offer?

ViiV has gained serious traction—over 400,000 downloads across Korea and Japan, with 200+ power users creating content regularly. We’ve accumulated 50,000+ short-form travel review videos focused on Korean and Japanese destinations, which we supply to businesses globally. On the VideoMonster side, we serve two distinct markets: SMB users who need turnkey video creation tools, and enterprise clients requiring custom video production solutions. It’s a dual-engine approach that maximizes our market reach.

Who are your target customers and what’s the market opportunity?

By 2028, we’re planning to build a library of 500,000 user-generated content pieces through ViiV, targeting major online travel agencies, travel companies, and content corporations. That translates to 6 billion won in revenue potential. For VideoMonster’s broader vision, we’re expanding beyond travel into webtoons, web novels, web dramas, and film—essentially becoming the AI video backbone for Korea’s entire content industry. Our 2028 target: 24 billion won in total revenue.

How does your business model work?

ViiV operates on volume-based B2B contracts—the more content companies need, the more they pay. We’re projecting 300 million won this year, 500 million won in 2025 (already confirmed), and 1 billion won by 2026. Major clients include Kakao and Naver. VideoMonster runs on dual revenue streams: SMB subscriptions around 30,000 won monthly, plus custom enterprise contracts. We hit 1.7 billion won in 2024, have 3 billion won locked for 2025, and we’re targeting 10 billion won by 2026. Our enterprise clients include Daedong Mobility, Kidari Studio, and NHN.

What have been your key achievements?

The financial foundation is strong—5 billion won in cumulative investment plus 3 billion won in government support programs. Geographically, we’ve expanded across Japan and six Southeast Asian countries, established our Singapore entity, and built our Tokyo presence.

We’ve signed sales MOUs with marketing agencies in Fukuoka and Tokyo for our video AI technology. The 11 patents speak to our innovation depth. Most telling: we crossed 2 billion won in revenue in 2024, which is remarkable for a video technology company, and we’re confident about hitting 3 billion won in 2025.

What makes your team uniquely qualified?

Our CEO brings 20+ years of directing and producing 350 TV commercials for major Korean and international brands—this is top-tier creative industry experience. We’re not just another tech company; we understand content creation at the highest professional level.

Our business director graduated from Waseda University and brings deep sales and business development experience from companies like Toray Advanced Materials and Voithru. Our marketing director has hands-on experience from Nexon, Neople, and Blank-Corporation, giving us insider knowledge of how content marketing really works.

What’s your international expansion strategy and progress?

We’re already generating revenue across six countries, with established operations in Singapore and Japan. Since 2024, we’ve secured direct contracts with major players like Rakuten Japan and Fukuoka mobility companies. Our approach isn’t just about expansion—it’s about building sustainable local partnerships that can scale our technology effectively.

How is the Tourism Global Challenge program supporting your growth?

Singapore represents the perfect gateway—it’s the investment and content hub for not just Southeast Asia, but all of Asia. Through the SWITCH program, we’re building crucial relationships with potential partners, getting real user feedback, and connecting with investors who understand our market. The networking with other Korean companies in the program is creating unexpected opportunities for domestic business development too.

Why should investors back VideoMonster?

Three compelling reasons. First, proven persistence—we’ve been consistently operating and refining our short-form video SaaS and AI services since 2019, through multiple market cycles. Second, validated scale—1 million VideoMonster users and 2.1 million videos created, plus 400,000 ViiV users and 50,000 videos, prove our technology works at scale. Third, market adaptability—we’ve successfully pivoted and expanded our offerings every year since 2020, matching evolving video consumption patterns. We’re not just riding trends; we’re anticipating and creating them.
