Naver D2SF Invests in U.S.-Based Startup ‘Summer Robotics’ to Advance Robotic Vision Sensors

Naver D2SF has invested in Summer Robotics, a machine vision startup headquartered in California, U.S., as part of its Series A funding round led by Applied Ventures.

Summer Robotics has developed a novel approach to robot vision sensors, delivering rare and advanced technology capabilities. Unlike conventional camera-based sensors, Summer Robotics utilizes a laser event sensor that detects light reactions at the microsecond level. This enables four times faster operation, 0.1mm precision measurement, and exceptional power and data efficiency compared to traditional robotic vision sensors.

Leveraging its proprietary technology, the company has developed Kortx, a solution that allows robots to operate effectively in dynamic and unstructured environments. Kortx has demonstrated strong performance in automating dynamic assembly, quality inspection, and parts handling in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, automotive, and semiconductors—proving its product value in real-world applications.

The co-founding team of Summer Robotics brings over 20 years of combined research and leadership experience in AI, machine vision, and robotics. Skyler Cullen, CEO of Summer Robotics, stated, “Korea is a leading nation in advanced manufacturing and innovation, representing a significant market opportunity. We aim to provide our machine vision technology to enable faster, smarter robotics and drive next-generation intelligent automation.”

Yongjeong Park, Head of North America Investments at Naver D2SF, commented, “Summer Robotics possesses overwhelming technological competitiveness in the 3D vision sensor field, transforming high-speed robotic operations on manufacturing floors. The team has redefined how robots perceive the physical world, and we expect them to rapidly strengthen their position in the global market.”
