alt-a Raises Series A to Scale AI-Powered Last-Mile Traffic Safety

Korean AI company alt-a, which tackles traffic safety challenges in last-mile road segments such as alleys and residential streets, has raised Series A funding from Grand Ventures, IBK, and K-R Ventures.

alt-a’s flagship product, altPlus, is an intelligent CCTV module powered by deep learning–based real-time object recognition technology. The solution accurately identifies pedestrians and various types of vehicles on the road, while collecting real-time traffic data across last-mile areas. Based on this data, altPlus provides actionable urban traffic safety insights, including road passability, heatmap analytics, illegal parking detection, and population density monitoring. By automating city monitoring and administrative operations in a data-driven manner, the solution also significantly enhances the efficiency of public administration.

altPlus stands out as an edge AI device that can be deployed without replacing existing CCTV infrastructure, delivering both cost efficiency and operational convenience. Built to withstand fluctuations in temperature and humidity, and equipped with an inter-module watchdog function, the system ensures stable, continuous traffic data collection around the clock.

To date, alt-a has deployed approximately 300 smart traffic infrastructure units across 17 local districts nationwide, including nine districts in Seoul. Through partnerships with public institutions such as Seoul Metro, Korea Rural Community Corporation, and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, the company has established a strong track record of real-world validation for its edge AI technology. alt-a has also demonstrated its global potential by executing AI-driven traffic infrastructure projects overseas, including in Barcelona, Spain, in collaboration with local partners.

Taewoo Lee, CEO of alt-a, said, “This investment marks an important milestone that will enable us to further advance our technology and expand our business. We aim to finalize this funding round by the first quarter of next year and position alt-a as a leader in the global last-mile traffic infrastructure market.”

Jeong-gyu Han, Managing Partner at Grand Ventures, commented, “Data-driven smart transportation systems are a critical infrastructure underpinning the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of smart cities. Despite their importance, last-mile areas such as alleys and residential roads have long lacked effective technological solutions. alt-a has successfully addressed this gap through its edge AI capabilities and robust data collection and processing technologies.”

He added, “alt-a has demonstrated its ability to solve real urban challenges through highly refined technology and proven, large-scale deployments nationwide. We were particularly impressed by the founding team’s hands-on approach in validating product stability and reliability from the earliest stages, as well as the company’s potential to expand into adjacent PHM (Predictive Health Management) markets and its strong global competitiveness.”
