Mitfreude Raises Seed Funding to Advance Semiconductor-Derived Optical Material Zentium
Mitfreude, a South Korean startup developing circular optical materials from semiconductor manufacturing byproducts, has closed a seed investment round led by Bluepoint Partners.

The company’s flagship product, Zentium, is a high-performance optical material derived from high-purity quartz resources recovered from semiconductor fabrication processes. Built on proprietary processing and formulation technology, Zentium goes beyond simple raw material supply — Mitfreude co-develops customized product designs with its clients, positioning itself as a full-cycle materials partner rather than a commodity supplier.
Even before its formal incorporation, Mitfreude was already validating market demand by producing and delivering prototypes and minimum viable products, including award plaques and artist objects. This early work confirmed both the feasibility of its initial production processes and the material’s practical applicability. The company has since signed non-disclosure agreements with global luxury brands and is in active discussions on potential partnerships.
The timing aligns with a broader regulatory tailwind: the European Union’s tightening of Digital Product Passport requirements — which mandate traceability of a product’s origin, materials, and recycling history — is creating new demand for certified circular materials. Zentium, derived from high-purity recycled resources, is drawing attention as a material well-suited to meet these emerging compliance standards.
Mitfreude plans to direct the seed proceeds toward advancing its core technology and conducting proof-of-concept trials with global prospects, while also expanding its footprint in public procurement markets and ESG-focused corporate partnerships.
Seobum Ham, a senior investment analyst at Bluepoint Partners, said the company’s approach targets two converging trends — the circular economy and materials innovation — simultaneously, and expressed confidence that Mitfreude’s potential would be quickly validated in global luxury and ESG markets.
Sukyung Kim, CEO of Mitfreude, said the importance of sustainability and resource circulation in the semiconductor industry is growing rapidly, but the technology to convert high-purity process byproducts into high-value advanced materials remains in its early stages. She added that Mitfreude aims to prove the market potential of this approach by reinterpreting the semiconductor industry’s overlooked high-purity resources as next-generation circular optical materials.
