MTEG, a medical AI company backed by Bigbang Angels, has officially launched the global service for its AI-based automated surgical analysis platform, VACS.ai.

VACS.ai is a platform that uses artificial intelligence to analyze surgical videos and automatically converts entire surgical workflows into time-series data. It automatically tags key events such as surgical tool usage patterns, bleeding, and lens contamination, while classifying and analyzing surgical phases to provide statistical data — including time comparisons, movement changes, and frequency of occurrence. The analysis results are delivered as visualized insight reports, which can be applied to surgical efficiency analysis, resident training and evaluation, surgical time prediction, and quality control.
MTEG emphasized that VACS.ai was developed to meet AWS global service standards, establishing a secure environment for surgical data storage and management. The platform also features enhanced video editing, search, and sharing capabilities. Its scalability as an open surgical AI data pipeline has been reinforced through a proprietary DX (Data Transformation) framework that converts unstructured surgical videos into structured data.
The surgical DX framework incorporates an AI model capable of recognizing 59 major surgical tools with over 95% accuracy. It also provides an AI engine that supports the easy addition and operation of Docker-based analysis models tailored to each surgery type, enabling medical staff and hospitals to build and utilize customized AI analysis models suited to their specific surgical methods and goals.
The global service launch includes default AI analysis models for six major cancer surgery fields, developed through national R&D projects with leading medical institutions including Seoul National University Hospital and Gachon University Gil Medical Center. This allows surgeons to automatically analyze their surgical videos and view the results in report format — without requiring a separate AI development process.
Deok-seok Kim, CEO of MTEG, stated, “Structured data generated by artificial intelligence from unstructured surgical videos will become the core infrastructure for future surgical innovation.” He added, “Through VACS.ai, we will support surgeons worldwide in digitizing their procedures and experiencing an objective, quantitative environment for research and analysis.”
Byung-sun Hwang, CEO of Bigbang Angels, said, “The emergence of VACS.ai goes beyond a simple service launch — it is an innovation that shifts the paradigm of surgery from personal experience to quantitative data.” He continued, “We are confident in MTEG’s potential to unlock the hidden value of video data long neglected in operating rooms, and we will be their most reliable partner as they establish themselves on the global stage.”
