Andreessen Horowitz Opens Seoul Office to Support Portfolio Companies’ Korea Expansion

Global venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has officially opened its Seoul office, the firm announced on June 15. The move marks a16z’s first physical presence in Asia since revealing expansion plans last December.

One of Silicon Valley’s most prominent venture firms, a16z manages approximately $100 billion (approximately KRW 150 trillion) in assets. The firm has built a reputation for going beyond traditional check-writing, offering portfolio companies comprehensive growth support including talent recruitment, business development, policy engagement, media relations, and partner network building.

Korea’s selection as a16z’s Asian hub reflects the country’s strengths across multiple sectors—AI, manufacturing, defense, crypto, content, and consumer markets—combined with its deep technical talent pool and rapid adoption of new technologies. Initially, the Seoul office will concentrate on crypto investments before gradually expanding into other sectors.

Sungmo Park, a16z crypto’s Asia-Pacific go-to-market lead, will run the Seoul operations. Park brings experience from Naver and the Monad Foundation and will focus on helping a16z crypto portfolio companies enter Korean and broader Asian markets through business development, partnership formation, and ecosystem connections.
