Six Samsung Affiliates Invest USD 1 Billion in U.S. AI Infrastructure Company Helix Digital Infrastructure

Samsung Electronics, along with five Samsung affiliates—Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance—announced on September 29, 2026, a combined USD 1 billion (approximately 1.36 trillion won) investment in U.S.-based AI infrastructure company Helix Digital Infrastructure.

Six Samsung Affiliates Invest USD 1 Billion in U.S. AI Infrastructure Company Helix Digital Infrastructure

Helix Digital Infrastructure was established in June 2026 by global investment firm KKR and provides integrated AI-related infrastructure including hyperscale data center development and operations, power generation (baseload and peaking capacity), transmission and distribution infrastructure, fiber-optic networks, and network infrastructure. Hyperscalers can rapidly secure the large-scale infrastructure needed to meet surging AI demand through Helix.

Helix is led by Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), and its management team comprises top specialists from the data center and power industries. The company also leverages the capabilities of KKR’s dedicated infrastructure team of approximately 170 professionals.

The six Samsung affiliates join Nvidia, U.S. power company Vistra, the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), and other global investors as founding investors in Helix, standing alongside leaders in the global AI infrastructure ecosystem including investment firms, semiconductor companies, and power utilities.

AI data centers are evolving beyond simple capital equipment into essential platforms that support diverse business models such as GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS), sovereign AI, and colocation (server space rental). The proliferation of data centers is creating a new industrial ecosystem spanning power, cooling, semiconductors, and finance. Samsung affiliates’ investment reflects a commitment to securing next-generation AI leadership within this data center ecosystem.

As AI services expand across daily life and industry, the importance of data centers to process massive computations and the power to operate them reliably is growing in tandem. If data centers are the production hubs of the AI era, power is the energy that drives those hubs, and the capability to secure both infrastructures together is becoming a core competency underpinning AI industry growth.

Helix addresses this competitive core by targeting both data centers and the power infrastructure to operate them as investment priorities. To overcome the primary bottleneck in AI infrastructure—securing power sources—the company plans to rapidly expand power capacity not only through its own investments but also by leveraging its partnership with co-investor Vistra.

This investment is expected to provide an opportunity for Samsung affiliates to extend their component competitiveness into system- and infrastructure-level influence. Through this, Samsung is projected to expand its position in the AI ecosystem from a component supplier to a direct participant in infrastructure ecosystem development.

Based on capabilities spanning the entire AI infrastructure spectrum, Samsung affiliates play a pivotal role in building global AI infrastructure and plan to expand cooperation opportunities with Helix going forward.

Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division supports global AI infrastructure development by nimbly responding to shifts in global semiconductor demand and supplying cutting-edge semiconductor products.

Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience (DX) Division supplies data center cooling products and solutions ranging from air-cooling product lines to coolant distribution units (CDU) for liquid cooling through Flakt Group, a data center HVAC specialist subsidiary acquired in 2025. Flakt Group’s strengths lie in the speed and flexibility to meet hyperscalers’ rapid expansion requirements through 14 production facilities worldwide and a supply and service network spanning 65 countries.

Samsung C&T’s construction division actively pursues large-scale infrastructure projects as an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) provider in data center development and power generation.

Samsung SDS, as an IT service provider, operates data center design, construction, and operations and has recently extended its business scope to GPUaaS. In particular, its power usage effectiveness (PUE) technology is at the highest domestic level and has been applied to its proprietary data centers and the National AI Computing Center.

Samsung SDI is recognized worldwide for its top-tier technology in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and battery backup unit (BBU) systems, which are essential to operating data centers that run high-performance servers 24 hours a day. Samsung SDI plans to secure additional business opportunities in this segment, where ultra-high output and high-capacity battery technology are critical.

Samsung Electronics and other Samsung affiliates plan to contribute to the smooth supply of global AI data center infrastructure and continuously pursue mutual synergies together with Helix and its partner companies following this investment.
