AnaBatIC Semiconductor Secures Series A Funding to Revolutionize Battery Management Systems

AnaBatIC Semiconductor, a Korea-based startup, has raised Series A funding from Smilegate Investment as it enters the global Battery Management System (BMS) market.

Founded in June this year, AnaBatIC Semiconductor is an early-stage company with core expertise in Analog Front-End (AFE) semiconductor devices that monitor and balance battery cells. Leveraging this technology, the company plans to evolve into a total BMS solution provider, optimizing the safety, lifespan, and performance of battery packs.

CEO and founder Se-Woong Jung, previously a key figure at Samsung Electronics, led the development of the Exynos mobile AP (Application Processor), successfully localizing a market previously dominated by global corporations. He later oversaw the large-scale battery division at Samsung SDI, working on BMS commercialization. Jung, along with a team of senior leaders from the semiconductor and secondary battery industries, founded AnaBatIC, armed with deep expertise and the network to scale the company as a B2B enterprise.

Insoo Baek, Director at Smilegate Investment, stated, “As industries like electric vehicles and ESS continue to grow due to the global push for carbon neutrality, the demand for BMS will also increase. AnaBatIC Semiconductor’s outstanding capabilities are well-positioned to meet these opportunities, and as investors, we’re committed to providing full support to help the company scale quickly.”

Jung emphasized the importance of BMS in preventing battery overheating and enhancing performance, but pointed out that key components like AFE and BMU AP are currently monopolized by a few manufacturers. “We identified a strong market need for diverse solutions, and with our expertise, we are confident in our ability to compete in this space.”

He added, “Our company name, AnaBatIC, refers to both ‘analog signals’ processed by integrated circuits (ICs) in batteries and the meteorological term ‘anabatic’, which means rising air currents. True to our name, we aim to be a driving force in the global secondary battery market as a K-startup.”
